One of my favorite sayings is, "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience." I believe that's true.
The Power of Purpose website exists to build a bridge from the so-called spiritual to the so-called secular. Francis Shaeffer used to say, "That which is not evil is spiritual."
Often times there is a "dialogue of the deaf" between the religious community and the marketplace. Both camps end up talking to themselves...or worse, pointing fingers...and there is isolation, misunderstanding and deep cynicism as a result.
I believe we all seek to be secure and significant...to find our purpose. Years ago, I used to say that "Life is more than paying your bills and staying out of jail." At 61 years of age, I don't say that flippantly any more (if you accomplish both, you're ahead of the curve)! But having said that, I truly believe we all want to make our lives count, to make a difference.
Back in the 60's, there used to be a phrase (mostly among the hippies) when something was meaningful. They would say "That was really heavy." It meant it had weight, substance, was important. We all want to be heavy---to have an impact.
I believe we were created to find our calling, soar with our strengths, redeem the time, and influence others. But too many people today drift aimlessly, settling for mediocrity, bored---ticking off the days until retirement with no vision for the future.
That's a shame. We all have a story...and a narrative that is much bigger than most of us realize. Since life is brief and flies by; is but a vapor and is gone, it's time to re-discover WHO we are and WHAT we are created to do.
We can't do it alone. Journey with us to discover and develop the hope that is in all of us---to leave a legacy and make the world a better place because we are in it.
